Churches in Bratton Clovelly Parish

St Mary the Virgin

Bratton Clovelly Okehampton

A Norman church but on a site dating back to Saxon times, St Mary's is notable for rare and magnificent 17th century wall paintings which are now cared for by English Heritage. The church has a Norman font but much of the interior was renovated in the 19th century to a very high standard. The windows are very fine examples of 19th century work by Lavers & Westlake, London. St Mary's has a matched set of six Pennington Bells, cast in 1767, which are rung regularly.

Today St Mary's is a member of the Northmoor Team of Churches in the Okehampton area on the north-west edge of Dartmoor. There is a service every third and fourth Sundays at St Mary's, first and second Sundays are at St. Germanus in the neighbouring village of Germansweek. The church is open to visitors every day during daylight hours. A congregation of all ages is active in the village community, and the church is a beautiful venue for baptisms, weddings and other special services. The Team clergy welcome enquiries about baptisms and weddings - see links for more details. Do come to Bratton Clovelly and visit St Mary's - the view from the churchyard is breathtaking.
